Mural Unveiling With Victor Escobedo

On May 7, 2022, the LCAC unveiled the first mural project of our reimagined Youth + Artist Programs to prepare the next generation of public artists. Since National Night Out on August 3, 2021, we have collaborated with the Denver Foundation (Strengthening Neighborhoods), the Denver Police Department, and Denver Arts & Venues (Urban Arts Fund), and Councilwoman, Jamie Torres to support the budding career of 16-year old Denver artist, Tyson Tafoya.

After his mentorship with Redline Resident Artist, Victor Escobedo, Tafoya shared:

The LCAC changed my whole view and perspective on art and what it involves. It allowed me to express myself and get into the art game by putting my name out there. I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity. All it takes is faith, dedication, and commitment. #LCAC4Life!

The LCAC’s Youth + Artist programs are opening doors for young artists to learn from the best creative talent in Denver. Professionals provide a real-world education for young people interested in a career as public artists, while reclaiming spaces with positive social messages. Students will learn everything from the proposal process, invoicing and execution, while participating in the co-creation of a public work.
