Victoria Paige Gonzalez (VPG): According to your new book there are 7 steps to becoming an unstoppable leader. How do they work together? What can the reader expect from following them?
Rocio Peréz (RP): The beauty of this book is everything works step-by-step. For instance, in the first section, ‘How to do More in Less Time’, we get to understand the mind. Most people don’t think they are leaders, yet they are. We manage our life, money and schedules. We lead others as parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, and so forth. First and foremost, we must understand that we are leaders in our everyday lives.
After you define what your desires and values are, the book takes you through a process of fostering your capacity to change. It walks you through questions that build self-awareness and accelerates your insights in what you need to get where you want to go. Next, you can start building your vision by creating a roadmap because if you don’t have a roadmap, how do you know how to get where you want to go? Any road is going to take you somewhere, but is that where you want to be? This book will have you look at your major plans for the next 30, 60, 90, and 180 days, so you can start living your vision.
I find that one of the things that helped me in my career was that I was willing to test, track and tweak. People can tell us NO, but we can ask, “How can it be a yes?”; “How else can I make it happen? A lot of times we can be told NO, but the beauty of the book is reiterating that we can always act toward our goals. In addition, the book includes unique resources developed for the reader to better understand their leadership with individual assessments, a senior leader assessment and a leadership survey.

VPG: In the book, there are opportunities for readers to reflect within the passages. How important is journaling as a practice?
RP: Journaling and reflection are the most important piece of becoming an unstoppable leader because it is what comes within. We are all born with our unique gifts, talents and skills. Here are some great questions to begin a quick meditation: ‘How are we being’, ‘What is it that we aren’t doing’, ‘What can we do differently’, ‘How is it working’, and ‘What can we do more of?’ This daily practice helps center us and brings mindful awareness through meditation and celebration.
At the end of the day, the best thing to do is look at three to five things we can accomplish that will make us happy and advance us to where we want to go. It’s a commitment to ourselves and to our future. If we were to take 15 mins a day to journal, where will we be in 30 or 90 days? Imagine if you did that three times a day. You will become completely unrecognizable by the end of one year.
VPG: What does it take to discover ones’ power and nurture it?
RP: It’s about making decisions for ourselves and asking what makes our heart sing. Then moving towards that. When you decide to take YOUR chosen path that’s when you can truly own your power.
VPG: What is one thing that we can start today to become an “Unstoppable” leader?
RP: Just one thing, (laughs) I can name three. If I were to name one, it’s acting toward curiosity and learning. There are so many ways to discover new things through resources, education, leadership building, and opportunities to learn from others. Always continue to learn.
